Every shop's first blog post says the same thing: "we're passionate about trucks." Fair enough. So instead of telling you that, we'll just tell you what actually happened and you can decide whether we know what we're talking about.

A Toyota family, for better or worse

Jason, one of our partners, has essentially only ever owned Toyotas. There was one Ford. He has repented. Aside from that brief lapse in judgment, it's been Toyota after Toyota for decades.

In 2020 he slid into the Tacoma platform and never looked back. Around that same time his sons, Austin and Jordan started 4R Customs, our partner company built around the 4Runner. 

Between the three of us there are years of hands-on mechanical experience on these trucks. There is not a bolt on these vehicles we haven't cracked.

Utah is a pretty good place to learn what breaks

Being based in Utah means the trail is not a marketing concept for us, it's a weekend. We've run some of the most iconic trails in Moab, pushed our rigs well past what a spec sheet promises, and found the limits the hard way.

That's where our product knowledge comes from. When we tell you a suspension setup is worth the money, or that a certain armor piece is the one that survives, it's because we watched what happened to ours. We know which mods fix a weakness on the platform and which ones just look good in a parking lot.

And we started broke

Here's the part a lot of shops leave out: we were college students when we started building. Which means we learned the budget path, what to buy first, what can wait, where spending more actually saves you money, and where it does not. If you're building a Tacoma one paycheck at a time, we've been exactly there and we'll tell you honestly where to start.

Why we only carry US-based brands

When we started Tacoma Customs, the very first decision we made was this: we work with US-based brands, and we carry only products we'd bolt to our own trucks.

There's a flood of cheap, unbranded off-road parts out there. We're not in that business. Every brand below is one we've personally tested, run, and pushed, and every one of them builds here.
